A courtesy hearing will be held for the public to attend and provide input regarding the issue.

At the upcoming September 19, 2018 Yavapai County Board of Supervisors meeting the Board will hold a courtesy hearing for the public to attend and voice their opinion about the possibility of adopting Ordinance 2018-1, which would regulate the use of portable communication devices and texting while operating a motor vehicle.

The State legislature has considered, but failed to adopt legislation that would prohibit texting while driving throughout the State of Arizona. Therefore, local jurisdictions must determine individually whether to adopt an ordinance to prohibit texting while driving. If approved by the Board of Supervisors, this ordinance would be effective throughout the unincorporated areas of Yavapai County, and within the jurisdictional boundaries of any city or town that chooses to adopt the ordinance.

If you would like to voice your opinion, the meeting will be held in Cottonwood at the Yavapai County Board Room located at 10 South 6th Street. You can also email your comments to David McAtee at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Your comments will be collected and presented to the Board of Supervisors at the meeting.

The final hearing and adoption meeting will be held on October 3, 2018 at the Board of Supervisors meeting in Prescott.
