Prescott Valley youths recovering after Glassford Hill Road collision

On 09/21/2012 at approximately 1535 hours a two vehicle serious injury collision occurred on Glassford Hill Road at Long Look Drive.  A 1983 Toyota 2DHB driven by 18 year old Raul Diaz Rojas was traveling northbound on Glassford Hill Road approaching Long Look and was in the left hand turn lane to turn westbound into the high school prior to impact.  There were three other passengers in his vehicle identified as a 17 year old male, 18 year old Ruben Lara back seat passenger and 17 year old male back seat passenger.

The other vehicle involved was a 1989 Chevrolet 1 ton pick-up truck driven by 51 year old Eric William Duncan.  The pick-up truck was loaded with heavy construction material in the bed of the truck.  This vehicle was traveling southbound on Glassford Hill Road in the inside #1 lane of traffic approaching Long Look Drive prior to impact.

The Toyota made a left hand turn into the high school parking lot directly in front of the pickup for unknown reasons on a green light for both lanes of traffic.  The pickup collided into the passenger side rear area (T-Bone type collision) sending the Toyota spinning around before coming to a rest along the southwest corner of the intersection.  The pickup continued southbound through the light before coming to a rest in the dirt field adjacent to Glassford Hill Road.

Neither driver nor passenger of the pickup was injured.  The driver of the Toyota (Diaz Rojas) was treated on scene for injuries believed to be non life threatening.  The 17 year old male front seat passenger was transported to YRMC East for injuries believed to be non life threatening.  He was released later that evening.  Both the 17 and 18 year old back seat passengers were flown to Flagstaff Medical Center.  The 18 year old back seat passenger lost consciousness and had other injuries to include and possible head injury.  The 17 year old had possible severe head trauma.  All four occupants were restrained by seatbelts.

The driver of the pickup, Duncan, had a suspended driver’s license and was taken back to PVPD for tests to check for possible impairment.  After completion of the DRE, no impairment was indicated but Duncan admitting to smoking marijuana earlier in the day. Duncan had been consuming alcohol earlier in the day, but his BrAC was .027%.   Blood & Urine was collected and sent to DPS Crime Lab for analysis.  Possible charges including Aggravated DUI are being long formed to the County Attorney’s Office pending blood results.

Diaz Rojas was issued a civil traffic citation for Failure to Yield while making a left turn (ARS 28-772) and no proof of insurance (28-4135 C).

All injured parties have been released from the hospital.
