Brewer speaks to the Republican Women of Prescott amid cheers, applause and laughter.

About 430 people attended the Republican Women of Prescott (RWOP) meeting on Tuesday, eagerly anticipating the featured speaker, Governor Jan Brewer.

To digress slightly, it's an almost-secret fact that RWOP, which was started in 1942, is the largest group of Republican Women in the state, boasting a membership of 416. But it's not as well known that RWOP has the second largest membership in the country - second only to the Huntington Beach Chapter in California, which has 430 members.

RWOP is looking at this as a challenge, and has determined to swell their ranks over the 430 mark. And on Tuesday, they added at least one more member to the organization when they presented a lifetime membership to Governor Brewer.

Governor Brewer was introduced by Yavapai County Attorney Sheila Polk, who walked briefly down a Brewer memory lane stating that the early story illustrates, "...so well a Republican ideal of persistence and a strong work ethic." Polk noted that Brewer's mother, "...taught them how to meet life's challenges: You meet them head on."

Brewer started by complimenting RWOP, "You guys are fabulous, you are spirited and it is just amazing to see the accomplishments and the growth that you have accomplished up here."

She then reviewed progress in the state since taking office, and thanked the women in the room for the representatives sent to the legislature, namely Speaker of the House Andy Tobin, Senate President Steve Pierce and Representative Karen Fann.

Brewer noted that not only is Arizona celebrating the centennial of the statehood, it is celebrating the centennial of allowing women the right to vote, beating other women in the United States to the ballot box by 8 years. "Arizona has been fabulous to their women, because their women have been fabulous to Arizona," she said.

Governor Brewer received loud applause when she spoke strongly about the President's administration, stating, "Frankly, failure is a hallmark of the President's administration."

Finally, at the end, in response to a question, Brewer regaled the ladies with her frank and humorous account of the meeting with President Obama, in which she was photographed shaking a finger in his face.
