An adult and two children are recovering from injuries suffered in a rollover accident on I-17. The single vehicle accident occurred at the General Crook Turnoff at 2 Wednesday afternoon. Camp Verde Fire Marshal Kristi Gagnon explains what caused the SUV to roll several times before landing on its side at the edge of I-17. Gagnon says the driver and passengers took a simple step that may have kept them from suffering more serious injuries. I-17 remained open during the investigation, since the accident occurred on the side of the highway.
The Yavapai Humane Society is looking to expand, and representatives will be asking for funding help from the County Board of Supervisors. As part of its voting session at 9 Monday morning, the Board will hear a presentation from Humane Society Executive Director Ed Boks on a proposal to expand the current facility on Sundog Ranch Road. Boks says the Society wants to build a medical facility for animals. Boks explains how much the new facility is estimated to cost. Boks hopes to start construction by next month. The meeting will be held in the County Administrative Services Building on Fair Street in Prescott.
If you’re a frequent visitor to Prescott’s lakes, you’ll see newly constructed dams in place by the end of this month. Reconstruction work on the dams includes concrete repair, removal and replacement and installation of handrails and security fencing. Contractor Truesdell Corporation is currently working on demolition of distressed concrete at Lower Goldwater Dam off Senator Highway. Other dams that are included in this project are the Upper Goldwater and Willow and Granite Creek. One million dollars is included in the Fiscal Year 2013 Budget’s Water Fund for these repairs.
Some long awaited improvements are coming to the Prescott Valley Civic Center. Town Manager Larry Tarkowski says the remodel has been in the works since the library moved out of the Center in 2009. After that move, Stroh Architecture finished up plans for a remodel of the Civic Center building. Town officials have updated those plans and have put the project out to bid. The remodel includes renovations on most of the Center’s floors and relocation of Town Departments. Following discussion by Town Council last night, a vote on a construction contract with low bidder Danson Construction is expected next week. The project is scheduled to get started later this month.
