William Baynham Scores Two Goals and Jose Perez Flores Scores One Goal In Second Half For Roughrider Victory

PRESCOTT VALLEY- William Baynham scored two goals and Jose Perez Flores scored one goal in the second half as the #8 ranked Roughriders soccer team came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit against Snow College to win 3-1, Saturday, September 9th, and remain undefeated on the season.

"It was a good solid effort all the way through,” Roughriders head soccer coach Michael Pantalione said. “Snow (College) is a quality team and the guys bounced back from that deficit at halftime and put three away at the second half, so they are to be congratulated. They worked very hard and deserve the victory.”

Both teams battled back and forth in the first half before Snow College started the scoring in the 39th minute with a goal from Sam BamberLister. Going into halftime facing a 1-0 deficit, the Roughriders have been in this position before.

“He (Pantalione) was just sort of saying we’ve done it before, we’ve come back from this sort of position,” Baynham said. “If we dig deep, stick to our game plan, we can come back again.”

The message was received as Baynham scored his first goal of the night assisted by Carlo Quesada in the 55th minute to tie the game. Flores would give the Roughriders a lead five minutes later on a goal assisted by Alexander Guadron.

Yavapai College would add an insurance goal in the 70th minute as Baynham picked up his second goal of the night, assisted by Flores.

“That’s what we wanted to do,” Baynham said. “We didn’t want sit back and let them attack us.”

The win marks the 598th victory in Roughrider soccer history.

Yavapai College (6-0-1) remains at home for a conference game against Gateway Community College at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley Tuesday, September 12th. Game time is 6:00 pm.
