Prescott Valley Town Manager Forgoes Merit Increase

Although the Town Council approved the merit increase for Larry Tarkowski, he decided to forgo it in consideration of the economic situation.

Prescott Valley, Ariz. – The Prescott Valley Town Council recently approved a merit increase for Town Manager Larry Tarkowski during a work study session. Tarkowski, along with the Mayor and Council, collectively decided to forego a compensation increase in consideration of the economic climate.

The Town Council has recognized Tarkowski’s good work and will honor his request to forgo the increase in pay. This action is not the first as the Town Attorney and Magistrate Judge similarly made this type of request earlier this year.

Comments from Town Council members:

  • Lora Lee Nye – Larry is understanding of complex issues and planning for the future is a big piece of why we are financially stable. He is the right manager at this difficult time.
  • Mayor Harvey Skoog - Larry has done an outstanding job and agreed to no raise; we are glad to have him and expect that he will continue to be an outstanding town manager.
  • Harold Wise – Larry is doing a very exemplary job and it is because of his guidance, with the council’s help, that our community is fiscally sound. We appreciate all that he does for our community.
  • Vice-Mayor Fran Schumacher – We are honoring his request to forego a raise because of the economy but he definitely deserves one; he is the best town manager in the state and he certainly runs this town, with the cooperation of the council, to make sure we are fiscally sound.
  • Mike Flannery – Larry has done a fine job both dealing with the budget constraints and the retention of our valued personnel.

The Town Manager’s Office is responsible for the overall administration of the Town government in concert with the goals and policies as established by the Town Council.
